Greater Manchester Police 3 - 1 Winsford Ladies F.C. (League Match)

The Ladies Team were in need of a good performance following
last weeks poor performance and that's what they gave, but yet
again "Lady Luck" was just not on their side.

The Ladies squad for Sunday, was made up of the following:
Jessica Moore was in nets.
The Defence was Rachel Robbins, Emma Johnson, Hanna Hewitson
and Kathryn Hulme.
The Mid-field was Vicky Jones, Kylie Kettle, Danielle Lydiate
Nicola Bogue and Hayley Mogford.
And Winsford's striker was Amy Hughes.

Winsford knew it was going to be a tough match against GMP,
but they were prepared to do battle. And battle they did.

The match kicked-off and the Ladies were straight to the job
at hand, pushing GMP back into their own half and keeping them
there for most of the first half. However, even with all that
pressure, Winsford were unable to capitalise and what shots
they did have have were dealt with by the GMP keeper.

Lydiate went closest from a free-kick from 20-yards out, but the
GMP keeper pulled off an amazing finger tip save at full stretch to
deny Winsford, pushing the ball over the bar for a corner.

The Ladies went into the half-time break in great spirits,
as they knew that they were in with a chance of taking something
from the game. However, GMP had other idea's and came out in
the second half a completely different team. The home side
pressed forward, pushing Winsford back into their own half, where
they won a very controversial penalty, following a tackle from
Hewitson in the Winsford 18-yard box.

GMP scored their penalty, with a low hard shot into the bottom
corner, giving the Winsford keeper, Moore no chance. 1 nil to the
home side.

It's at this point that the game turned a little rough, as Winsford
tried to rally and pressed for an equaliser. Unfortunatley, the referee
didn't listen to Winsford's shouts and claims for late, heavy tackles
that GMP were putting in, plus the blatent obstructions and constant
ankle tapping, which was putting the Winsford players off as they
tried to pass the ball around.

The Ladies picked themselves back up and presssed forward again
trying break down the home side and get themselves back into the game.
However, the Ladies were punished by the GMP striker, following
a defensive error. 2 nil to GMP.

Winsford kept up the pressure for a goal, but were again punished
by GMP, when Winsford keeper came out to meet the GMP striker in
a one on one at the edge of her 18-yard box. Moore made the decision
not to go to ground and put her body behind the ball, but tried to
intercept the ball with her feet. Unfortunately, this was the wrong
decision on the day and Moore came out second best. 3 nil to GMP.

The home side continued closing down the Winsford players, giving them
no time on the ball and in their attempts to win the ball back, the
Winsford players were continually fouled. In the end, Winsford became
very frustrated with the referee, as he was just giving the Ladies
nothing.

Winsford didn't give up though and kept up the pressure on the home
side and were rewarded with a goal by Kettle.

The Ladies were awarded another corner near the end of the match,
which Hewitson delivered in a great cross into the 6-yard box, from
which there was a mass scramble to try and score. However, yet again
the referee wasn't willing to listen to Winsford's claims that the ball
had crossed the line not once, but three times before GMP managed to get
the ball to safety.

Winsford turned the heat up a notch and were rewarded with a
penalty following a foul on Hughes, when she was literally up-ended
in the GMP 18-yard box. Kettle was given the penalty to take, but
the GMP keeper made a great save, to keep the ball out of her net.

The management made two substitutions during the game, firstly to
replace Bogue with Jay Anderson, this resulted in a change to the Ladies
formation. The second change, was a straight swap, when Katie Mogford
came on to replace her sister Hayley, who'd had a great game out on
the right wing.

On the day, the final score of 3 - 1 in GMP's favour was undeserved
and Winsford definitely deserved a share of, if not all of the points.

Overall, there were some great individual performances, but it was a
much improved team performance on the previous week, with lots of
possession and positives to take from the game, but there just wasn't
not enough shots at goal.

Winsford's next match is at home to Greater Manchester Police
on Sunday 7th November 2010.
