The Ladies were up for the match against Mossley Hill, although
they were missing their regular keeper, Jessica Moore due to illness,
plus several other squad members due to work and university commitments.

The Ladies squad for Sunday, was made up of the following:
Sarah Lee was in nets.
The Defence was Rachel Robbins, Emma Johnson, Hanna Hewitson
and Kathryn Hulme.
The Mid-field was Vicky Jones, Kylie Kettle, Nicola Bogue,
Danielle Lydiate and Anna Watts.
And Winsford's lone striker was Amy Hughes.

The first half kicked off and Winsford were straight to
business, pressing Mossley Hill back into their own half. The
Ladies worked hard at keeping possession and passed the ball
around the mid-field, showing some great one-touch football between
Jones, Lydiate, Kettle, Watt and Hughes up front.

The Winsford striker Hughes worked tirelessly up front, chasing
down every through ball and making the Mossley Hill keeper earn
her keep.

Winsford's undoing and only real mistake for the two first half
goals, scored by the home team, was that they held too high of a
back line. This allowed the Mossley striker to break through the
Winsford defence chasing the long ball over the top and left Lee,
their stand in keeper with a one-on-one to deal with. There was only
going to be one winner.

The Ladies didn't give up and kept pressing for a goal, which
they were rewarded with late in the first half. The Winsford
mid-field pushed forward squeezing the Mossley Hill defence onto
the edge of their 18-yard box. Kettle received the ball and put a
pass to the feet of Hughes, whose back was to the Mossley Hill goal.
Hughes first touch was perfect, as she spun to her right and unleashed
a furocious left foot shot which just rocketed into the top left
corner of the Mossley Hill goal, even at full stretch the shot gave
the keeper no chance.

The half-time whistle blew and Winsford used the time to discuss
tactics.

When the second half kicked off, Winsford came out fighting and pushed
Mossley Hill back in to their own half and that's where most of the
football was played. The Mossley Hill keeper was outstanding on the day
and kept them in the game. The Ladies put every effort into trying to
find the illusive goal they needed to level the scores.

However, with only 5 minutes left of the game, Mossley Hill broke
through the Winsford defence again and sealed the match with a third goal.

Lee, Winsford's keeper for the day, put in a spirited performance
and made some important saves and interceptions, considering she is
not a goal keeper, but Winsford's longest serving striker. Unfortunately,
Lee is still recovering from an ankle ligament injury she sustained
earlier in the season, in a match against Birkenhead.

The Ladies were up for putting in a good performance, one
full of grit and determination. The result didn't reflect how
well the team played on the day. It was probably their best
perfomance of the season so far and also their most disappointing
result.

Winsford's next match is at home to Glossop North End on Sunday,
24th October 2010, kick-off is 2pm.
