Liverpool Feds Reserves 4 - 3 Winsford Ladies F.C. (League Match)

Winsford Ladies dropped all 3 points on Sunday against
Liverpool Feds Reserves when they lost in an exciting seven
goal match.

On a windy Sunday afternoon, Winsford knew this league match
against Liverpool Feds was always going to be a tough opening
League match, as both matches last season ended in a draw.

But the Ladies Team went for it right from the kick off,
immediately putting the home side on the back foot.  Winsford's
back four of Rachel Stockall, Kathryn Hulme, Hanna Hewitson and
Jessica Moore (Winsford's Keeper) pushed a high line and kept
the Liverpool strikers quite.

The Ladies team also had league debuts from Hayley Mogford
and Amy Hughes. Mogford played on the right wing along side Danielle
Lydiate, Kylie Kettle and Vicky Jones, whilst Hughes paired up with
Sarah Lee up front.

Winsford pressed for a goal, with shot after shot going just
wide. But it was the home side who broke the deadlock, following
uncharacteristic mistake from Stockall, which allowed the Liverpool
striker to capitalise on.  The Ladies stand in keeper, Leanne
Hudson, didn't stand a chance as the striker expertly slotted
the ball home.

But Winsford didn't allow that to dampen thier spirits, they
picked themselves up and got staright back to the job in hand
and within a few minutes, a long range shot from Lydiate found
it's way through the Liverpool defence, past the keeper and into
the back of the net.

With the scores level, Winsford found an extra gear and
pushed hard for another goal, which they were rewarded with
just before half time, when Jones put the ball in the back
of the Liverpool net.

Winsford were forced to make a half time substitution and
brought Jay Anderson on for Moore at right back, due to an
ankle injury sustained in the first half.

The home side must have had a strong talking to at half
time, as they came out in the second half with a renewed
vigour.  Liverpool pushed Winsford back into their own
half and pressed for an equaliser, which they were rewarded
with.  With scores level again, both side went for the win,
but with only a stand in keeper, Winsford had a weakness
that the home side exploited, with two more quick goals from
long range shots, giving Hudson no chance.

Winsford's next substitution was to replace Mogford with
Emma Johnson.  The manager, Tony Lee made further changes
by replacing Hudson in goal with Hulme and put Hewitson up
front along side Hughes and moved Lee into the centre of
defence, due to a thigh strain.

Winsford didn't give up though, they kept pressing the
home side, testing the defence and keeper.  Their efforts
were getting closer and closer all the time, as Hughes and
Lydiate both hit the cross bar.  But they kept going and
were rewarded with a goal from Kettle, when her shot from
just outside the Liverpool 18-yard box went in.

Winsford were again forced to make a substitution with
4 mins to go, bringing on Nicola Bogue for Stockall, due
to a knee injury.

The match ended with a frustrating loss for Winsford, a game
which they knew they should have won.
