The Ladies squad for Sunday, was made up of the following:
Emma Johnson in nets.
The Defence was Rachel Stockall, Hanna Hewitson, Leanne Hudson
and Kathryn Hulme.
The Mid-field was Jay Anderson, Kylie Kettle, Danielle Lydiate
and Jodie Venture.
And Winsford's striker's were Sarah Lee and Amy Hughs.
Substitute's were : Chloe Grierson.
The match kicked off and battle commenced. The Ladies were
really up for today's game and were determined to take all three
points. Winsford were in a confident mood, although not having
their regular keeper Jessica Moore, who is currently out with a
knee injury which was sustained at training. However, their
captain Emma Johnson stepped up to the plate, to help her team
mates out.
Winsford went straight to work and put the home side on the
back foot. The Ladies had every intention of controlling the
game, but the home side had other ideas. The Liverpool side,
at times made it very difficult for the Ladies. Both teams
played some lovely passing football.
The Ladies back four stood strong and dealt with everything
that the home side could throw at them. Liverpool were left with
shooting from range, which the Winsford keeper dealt with
confidently.
As Winsford pressed forward, it wasn't long before the
Ladies efforts were rewarded with an early goal. The Ladies
Team won a corner and the ball delivered into the 18-yard box
was exceptional. The Liverpool keeper tried to clear the ball,
but it fell to Hughes who got enough on it and sent it straight
back at the keeper. But this time she couldn't keep it out.
Hughes said, "It wasn't exactly my finest strike, as it came
off my shin". It deosn't matter how it goes in, just as long
as it does.
Liverpool Feds Reserves 0 - 1 Winsford Ladies F.C.
The home side came back at the Ladies with renewed vigure,
and were rewarded with a goal following a throw-in which wasn't
theirs to take, due to a very unsportsman like decision by
the lineswoman. However, the home side did score a very good
goal to bring the score level.
Liverpool Feds Reserves 1 - 1 Winsford Ladies F.C.
The goal gave Liverpool an extra gear and they pressed hard
in the search of a second goal. But with their renewed efforts,
came a lot of late challenges when Winsford were in possession.
Kettle seemed to be the focus of their attention, as she was
subjected to numerous unproffessional challenges. It seemed as
if the Liverpool side were taking it in turns to bring her down
when she had the ball. Unfortunately for the Ladies, the
referee did not issue any cards either, he just gave Winsford
free-kick after free-kick.
When the half time whistle went, the Ladies came off knowing
that they should have been a goal up, instead of drawing.
Half time. Liverpool Feds Reserves 1 - 1 Winsford Ladies F.C.
The second half kick-off where the first ended, with all
the work being done by both sides through the mid-field. Both
Liverpool and Winsford had their chances to score, but their
respective keepers dealt with each opportunity confidently.
The home side took the game to Winsford and following yet
another wrong decision by the referee, in which Winsford
should have been awarded a free-kick, but instead he allowed
play to continue in Liverpool's favour and from this they scored
a long range goal, which the Winsford keeper Johnson, did her
best to get too, but just couldn't keep it out.
Liverpool Feds Reserves 2 - 1 Winsford Ladies F.C.
With 15 minutes to go the management made a substitution,
when they put on Grierson at right back, who was making her
league debut for the Ladies Team and took off Venture, who
was also making her debut.
With the substitution, the management also made a tactical
change by pushing Hewitson up on the right wing and putting
Hulme in at Centre Back.
Winsford pilled on the pressure and forced the Liverpool
side to do some desparate defending. In doing so, the Ladies
won several corners, one of which came very close to an
equaliser.
Hewitson placed the ball down for the corner. When she took
it though, it took everyone by surprise, as she whipped in a
vicious in swinging ball which was only stopped from going
in by a superb finger tip save from the Liverpool keeper.
Winsford gave it their all and pressed for the equaliser,
but it just wasn't to be.
The Ladies team played well on the day and considering
they had a stand in keeper, who played exceptionally well
in nets.
The final score was 2 - 1. The Ladies team deserved to take
a something away from the game. However, they just didn't have
enough shots at goal. This is something that the management will
be working on over the next couple of games. But what the Ladies
can take away is the knowledge that their performance was worthy
of at least a share of the points. It's just disappointing to
lose a game following some very dodgy refereeing decisions.
Winsford's next match is at home against Macclesfield
Town Ladies, on Wednesday, 7th September 2011. Kick-Off 8pm.
Well done to Kylie Kettle, who was given Winsford's Girl
of the Match Award
