Winsford Ladies F.C. 2 - 4 Macclesfield Town (Cheshire County F.A. Cup Match)

The Ladies team were hoping for a better performance than
they gave against Birkenhead, which is what they gave. But as
usual, Winsford were plagued by small errors or just bad luck.

The Ladies squad for Sunday, was made up of the following:
Nicola Bogue was in nets.
The Defence was Rachel Robbins, Hanna Hewitson, Leanne Hudson
and Kathryn Hulme.
The Mid-field was Vicky Jones, Emma Johnson, Kylie Kettle,
Danielle Lydiate and Anna Watt.
And Winsford's striker was Amy Hughes.
Substitutes was : Kerry Henstock and Jay Anderson.

The match kicked off and both teams were straight into the
thick of it. The Ladies had a very positive attitude and a
definite will to win.

The whole of the first half was fairly evenly match, it was
literally end to end football, with both teams having an equal
amount of possession and opportunities. But it was Macclesfield
who broke the deadlock in the first half, with a superb headed
goal from a corner kick. The Winsford defence just didn't deal
with the threat and allowed Macclesfield a free header, which
beat the Winsford keeper, Bogue.

0 - 1 to Macclesfield.

The visitors lead was doubled just a few minutes later, when
Winsford scored an accidental own goal. Macclesfield put a great
ball into the Winsford 18-yard box and following a scrappy exchange
the ball was unfortunately put into the back of the net, again
giving their keeper Bogue, no chance.

0 - 2 to Macclesfield.

Winsford came back at the visitors with renewed energy and got
their just rewards, with a goal from Jones, who found herself
with an easy tap in, when the Macclesfield keeper saved the initial
shot from Hewitson, but parried in straight to the feet of Jones.

1 - 2 to Macclesfield.

The remainder of the first half continued as it had started, with
both teams pressing for a goal that would get them all 3 points.

Half time.

The second half kicked off and both teams went to work, but it
wasn't long before the next goal was scored. However, it wasn't
in Winsford's favour, as Macclesfield scored again to extend their
lead. This was another goal scored by the visitors, which wouldn't
have stood if the referee had blown for the foul committed just
seconds earlier to win the ball.

1 - 3 to Macclesfield.

Winsford didn't give up and continued to press for another goal.

With 20 minutes to go the management were forced into making a
substitution, when Watt had to come off with a knee injury. It was
Anderson who came on for Watt, which was a straight swap at right
mid-field.

The Ladies pressed for a goal that would get them back into the
game. Winsford's mid-field worked tirelessly to break down any
attack from the visitors and to keep possession of the ball and it
was from the mid-field that Winsford's second goal came, when Lydiate
won a strong challenge on the edge of the visitors 18-yard box and
drove a low hard shot, beating the keeper and into the back of the
Macclesfield net.

2 - 3 to Macclesfield.

The management made a tactical substitution with 10 minutes to go,
by bringing Robbins off at left back and bringing Henstock on up front,
along side Hughes. This nearly paid off within minutes, as Henstock
found herself running into the Macclesfield 18-yard box, with the ball
at her feet. Unfortunately for Winsford, Henstock shot just wide of the
left hand post. She was so close to her debut goal.

The visitors sealed victory with a forth and final goal, which was
scored from an off-side position, but the referee didn't blow for it,
so Winsford were left to pick up the pieces.

2 - 4 to Macclesfield.

The final score was 2 - 4. The result does not show how well the
Ladies played on the day or how much effort they put in during the
match. It's also not a fair result either, as the visitors only scored
one goal, which was from a set piece. If the other three goals hadn't
have been scored, then it would have been a different result altogether.
But that's football for you!!!!

Winsford's next match is at home to Mossley Hill Reserves, on Sunday
30th January 2011.
