Winsford knew this league match against Greater Manchester Police was going to be a tough battle and inevitably it was.
The Ladies were ready to take the game to the home side, but Greater Manchester Police desperately wanted the 3 points and kept the visitors pinned back for most of the first half.
Winsford's back four of Rachel Robbins, Emma Johnson, Hanna Hewitson and Leanne Hudson worked tirelessly and yet again put in some great individual performances.
Winsford kept fighting but found it difficult as the home side made sure that the Ladies didn't get any time on the ball. This meant that Winsford were stopped from putting any more than a couple of passes together. The Ladies mid-field of Jay Anderson, Kylie Kettle, Danielle Lydiate, Kathryn Hulme and Vicky Jones did all they could to help their back four and hold back the hosts constant attacking play, but the home side played well as a team, switching the play from left to right and using the long ball over the top to good effect.
The home side broke the deadlock with a goal from open play, which was closely followed by a second just before the break, which was the result of a free kick that the Winsford keeper, Jessica Moore managed to get a hand to and keep it out of the goal, but the rebounding ball fell straight to a GMP player, who tapped it home.
Winsford started the second half with a positive attitude and a will to get themselves back in the game and although the Ladies had a fair share of the possession, it was the home side who made the most of it and looked the more likely to score again.
The Ladies used both their substitutes in the hope that fresh legs would help lift their spirits. The management brought on Nicola Bogue to and Catherine Southern to replace Anderson and Hudson respectively. GMP continued to press for another goal, which they were rewarded with just a couple of minutes later.
The home side then scored twice more in quick succession to put the game out of Winsford's reach. All the hard work that Winsford had put in was in vain and undone in a crazy period of just 10 minutes.
With the scoreline at 5 – 0, the Ladies did everything they could for the remainder of the match, but in the end the stronger side won on the day.
