Barton Stadium, home to the Winsford Ladies Team saw its first home fixture against Buxton Ladies F.C. of the 2009/2010 Season.
It was an epic battle between two very determined teams, who both wanted and needed to take all three points. But in the end, Winsford Ladies stood victorious after 90 minutes, of some of the most competitive football, we have seen so far.
The Ladies put on a fantastic team performance against a resilient Buxton side, who gave everything they had, to try and break down Winsford's defence. But they stood strong and resisted attack after attack from Buxton. With the Winsford Ladies Team only having eleven players available to play and with their Goal Keeper, Jessica Moore having to play at Right Back, due to a sprained thumb, the team turned to both Hanna Hewitson and Dannielle Lydiate to put on the gloves and take up the last line of defence. Both players did a great job of ensuring that Buxton didn't get their way.
Due to the change in net, the Management had no option but to change their normal formation and go with a different line up. And it was a great success!!! The whole Team worked as a unit, talking and passing the ball around confidently, creating chance after chance, wearing the Buxton defence own with a barrage of shots.
It took a stoke of genius from Leanne Hudson, when she won the ball just inside the Buxton half and unleashed a long range, high looping shot, which dipped just under the bar to give Winsford the lead they so deserved. But it was short lived and with the cheers still ringing around the ground, Buxton kicked off an within the space of 2 minutes had equalised. But Winsford never gave up!! The Ladies continued to pressurise the Buxton defence and working their keeper. In the end, it was Vicky Jones who broke the deadlock, with a great run down the Left Wing, Vicky cut inside and with her right foot, she scored an absolute peach of a goal in the top right hand corner, giving the keeper no chance an Winsford all 3 points. It was a pleasure to watch the Ladies put on such a great team display, with every single player giving their all.
