Unfortunately for Winsford, due to not having a match in 6 weeks, had taken it's toll on the Ladies team. Winsford's recent match form leading up to the Christmas break, did not shine through.
On a cold, rainy Sunday afternoon the Ladies team started the first half, with a belief that they could beat Greater Manchester Police. However, the Ladies heads were soon down, when the visitors opened the scoring within the 3 minutes of the start, when they won an early corner and were allowed an unchallenged header. The Winsford keeper, Jessica Moore, didn't stand a chance.
Winsford didn't give up though, they regrouped and tried to take the game to the visitors, but GMP were the far better team on the day.
The second half went to the visitors too, who scored another two goals to seal Winsford's fate.
The game was won and lost in the mid-field, where both teams fought tooth and nail for possession, with both Danielle Lydiate and Kylie Kettle giving their all. Winsford's defence of Kathryn Hulme, Emma Johnson, Hanna Hewitson and Leanne Hudson, did what they could against the very quick GMP front three.
Winsford's attempts at attacking the GMP goal were easily dealt with by the visitors well organised defence.
Both teams left the pitch knowing they had been in a titanic battle from start to finish, but the visitors won the match comfortably, with a 3 nil win and left with all three points.
The ladies team have dropped to fourth in the league following this loss, but Winsford have vowed to bounce back, with their heads held high for their next match, which is against the league leaders.
