Airbus UK Ladies F.C. 0 - 8 Winsford Ladies F.C. (League Match)

Winsford Ladies travelled to Broughton on Sunday for a match against Airbus UK Ladies. The Ladies promised a repeat of last weeks result and the weather forecast was for rain, high winds and freezing temperatures, neither was to disappoint.

The Ladies set the stall out to take the game to Airbus and that's exactly what they did. And yet again, Airbus couldn't cope with Winsford's gutsy midfielders and in form strikers.

It didn't take long for Winsford to break the deadlock and after only 10 minutes Sarah Lee opened the scoring. The first goal of the day came following a lovely passing move by the Winsford midfield of Danielle Lydiate and Kylie Kettle, the ball threaded through the Airbus defence for Lee to run onto, which she then coolly slotted home.

Winsford's second goal came shortly after the kick off and was a repeat of the first, with Lee beating the Airbus keeper again.

Kathryn Hulme was next to score, when Lydiate passed the ball out wide to Hulme on the right wing, who used her skill and experience to beat a defender and then slide the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net. It was a very well taken goal for Hulme, who normally resides at left back.

Winsford's next goal was scored by Vicky Jones. Jones had been causing the Airbus defence all manner of problems during the first half and then won the Ladies a corner following a lovely run down the left wing. Lydiate took the corner and delivered the ball right into the danger area and as the Airbus keeper scrambled for the ball, Jones poked it past her and into the net.

The Ladies didn't have it all there own way, with Airbus managing a couple of attacking moves. But the Winsford defence of Leanne Hudson, Hanna Hewitson, Catherine Southern and Emma Johnson, kept their wits about them and ensured that their goalkeeper Jessica Moore had next to nothing to do.

At the break Airbus trailed 0 - 4. But if it weren't for the Airbus keeper, the scoreline would have been very different.

Winsford started the second half as they did the first and piled the pressure on the Airbus defence.

Both Lydiate and Natasha Handy bagged a brace for Winsford in the second half. Handy's debut goals for the club were well taken and it was just a matter of time before she put one away following her first half performence. Lydiate's two goals were clinically finished, well deserved and capped a fine performance.

The three points were well deserved, as were the eight goals scored on the day. Lee was voted player of the match, following a great performance.

Winsford travel to Preston North End Ladies this Sunday in the Preliminary round of the North West Women's Regional League Cup & Plate.
