Winsford Ladies F.C. 5 - 5 Liverpool Feds Reserves (League Match)

Winsford Ladies hosted Liverpool Feds Reserves on Sunday, which ended up a 10 goal thriller.

The Ladies team definitley took the game to the Liverpool side and were rewarded with an early goal on 10 minutes. Danielle Lydiate chipped a lovely weighted ball over the top of the Liverpool defence, for the Winsford striker, Emma Hazel to score her first goal for the Ladies Team.

Winsford kept up the pressure on the Liverpool defence during the first half, with some great passing football and several great through balls for the wingers Vicky Jones and Hanna Hewitson to run on to. But it was Hewitsons pace that was really troubling the Liverpool back four.

But it was Liverpool who scored next from an unforced error, the ball was rolled out to a Winsford defender, but the Liverpool striker was quick off the mark and intercepted it and slid it past the Winsford goalkeeper Jessica Moore.

Winsford regained their composure from the kick-off and piled on the pressure again. And were rewarded with a sensational goal by Hanna Hewitson, who made a lovely timed run down the right wing and picked up a through ball from Danielle Lydiate. Hewitson took the ball past two Liverpool defenders and unleashed a savage shot from the edge of the 18-yard box, which rocketed into the top corner, threatening to burst the roof of the net and left the Liverpool goalkeeper no chance.

The Ladies started the second half as they had finished the first, with their mid-fielders Kylie Kettle and Danielle Lydiate controlling the play through the centre.

But Liverpool came back with a quick goal from a slick move down the right wing to level the score at 2 - 2.

Winsford continued to pressurise the Liverpool defence and regained the lead with a second goal from Emma Hazel. This time it was Hanna Hewitson who provided the killer pass, from a well timed run down the right wing, Hewitson crossed the ball into the box and Hazel finished the move off with a little chip to beat the Liverpool keeper.

Sarah Lee was next on the score sheet and following a perfectly weighted through ball from Danielle Lydiate, Lee finished off by sliding the ball into the open net after beating the Liverpool keeper in a one-on-one.

Then 2 minutes later, the Ladies team couldn't believe their luck, when they were awarded a penalty for a proffessional foul on Sarah Lee in the box. Lee stepped up to take the penalty and coolly slotted it home, to make the scoreline 5 - 2 to Winsford.

All's that the Ladies team had to do was keep Liverpool out of shooting range, but the Ladies hearts were broken, with only 10 minutes to go.

Liverpool capitalised on the Winsford team having no substitutes, by bringing on 2 pairs of fresh legs. The Liverpool side then turned the heat up on the Winsford back four and exploited the tired Winsford defence, by punishing them with three quick goals to level the score line at 5 - 5.

On the day, the Ladies team were the much better side and deserved all three points. But it wasn't to be.

Winsford's next match is away this Sunday, against Macclesfield Town Ladies. The Ladies team will want to turn the corner on this run of bad luck and frustrating mistakes, following what has been some fantastic and exciting football and not to mention, lots of goals.
